The Graceful Goat: What’s in a Name?

The Graceful Goat: What’s in a Name?

Welcome to my very 1st blog post!

I’m sure you’re all wondering –  how in the world did I come up with the name the graceful goat?  Is it because I’m obsessed with goats?  Well, that is partially true – goats are all the rage these days ( Hello! Goat yoga people!).  But in all seriousness, I am the graceful goat.  WHAT? You certainly look human, how are you part-goat?  The name “Anne” means grace and my last name translated from Polish relates to goats.  So there you have it folks!  It’s me and I’m embracing my graceful goat-ness.

Growing up, I never cared for my name. I always wished for something a bit more whimsical.  Slightly pigeon-toed and awfully clumsy, I was far from the embodiment of grace as a child.  Gross-motor skills were never my strong suit.  Within the past few years, I’ve started to embrace my name and radiate grace. While I still trip over my feet, I’ve focused on exuding grace through meditative practice, spirituality, yoga, creative endeavors, and my love of nature.

I may not look like a goat but I aspire to emanate some of its beautiful qualities.  The goat has been in mythical lore and religious texts throughout the ages both as a God and a devil.  Personally, I’ve found the goat to represent an earth-loving mentality, independence, transcendence, faith, wildness, and courage throughout life’s obstacles.

Names and their meanings have always been a fascination of mine – it adds a whole new dimension to your being.  The name given to you as soon as you’ve entered into this world *is a powerful thing*.  Your name can allude to qualities you are to embrace in this lifetime or perhaps a key to your destiny.  Yet, I find most people do not know or care to know their name meaning.  There are also a majority of individuals with an aversion to their given name.  For many, a name represents strained familial relationships, past traumas, bullying, etc. Or maybe your name doesn’t have a meaning.

Delving into the depths of your name and embodying it’s attributes or even creating a nickname or mantra that epitomizes you or what you wish to be may aid in releasing anything no longer needed.  Even if you don’t love your name, what can you learn from it? How can it help you grow?  I’ve found that as I’ve evolved spiritually, I’ve come to appreciate my name more and more.

Can you love your name? Can you embody it’s meaning?  It’s a beautiful part of what makes you, the most wonderful YOU!
