NYE + The Four Agreements
I really don’t party anymore. Alcohol makes my stomach hurt and I don’t enjoy feeling groggy and foggy the following day. I’d rather make productive use of my time and I’ve found alcohol to be a Band-Aid for my emotions. I just want to feel what I’m feeling and release in a healthy way.
After a tumultuous Christmas, I decided that the last thing I needed for New Years was to be in the company of a bunch of people, in a chaotic bar, wearing a dress that’s too tight, drinking sugar-filled libations, whilst watching Ryan Seacrest count. Hells no.
My NYE was exactly what I needed. During the day I went to a super lovely Kundalini Yoga and Gong Meditation. At night I took a luxurious bath, ate a lot of cheese, drank sparkling cider (the non-alcoholic kind), and read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Serious party animal up in here!
For those unfamiliar with The Four Agreements, I highly recommend! It was the most perfect book to ring in the New Year.
Ultimately we are all dealing with self-limiting beliefs that hold us back in life. We get stuck in this rut of bad talking ourselves or others, of not speaking up, of not placing boundaries, of assuming this or that, of thinking people are psychic and know what is really going on in our heads, etc. etc. I don’t even know what is going on in my own head sometimes – how can I assume someone else does?!
The themes in The Four Agreements are familiar – there is a deep knowing within of how we should treat ourselves (and others) but something gets lost in the sauce.
It’s all about remembering our intrinsic truth of how to live in this world with freedom, self-love, and happiness.
We may know the way mentally, but are we REALLY showing up for ourselves? Like ever? Like ever ever ever? I show up for other people way more than I show up for myself and that is a bunch of bird doo-doo!
I should be showing up. We all should be showing up. It’s all about speaking our truth, avoiding taking things too personality, communicating wants and needs effectively, and being our most badass self-24/7.
All that other crap, well out with the old year! In with the new!
RING IN YOUR NEW SELF. Ring in authenticity, effective communication, not assuming ANYTHING, making your needs known, and just owning your whole self (every nook and cranny ya’ll! Own it).
Know that some days are good days and some days are gray days but all days are filled with lessons to be learned.
So currently I’m making a self contract to step my life game up. I want to hold myself more accountable for my actions or non-actions in a loving and productive way. It’s a great way to show up!
Make an agreement with yourself to be the very best you can be and show up in whatever way is needed.
Go get it! I wish you all tons and tons of luminous light. May your 2018 be filled with goodness and growth. Work it yo, you’re worth it.
